?Improving Sarawak?s telco high priority for federal government?

KUCHING: The federal government will remain committed to improving the quality of telecommunications in Sarawak to ensure that it is on par with other states in the country.

Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo said this when officiating at a ?Leaders and the People? programme in Kampung Paon Rimo, Serian near here yesterday, in connection with Gawai Dayak celebrations.

Extra RM60 mil for states, plus 50% of tourism tax

PUTRAJAYA: The federal government is providing RM60 million in additional federal allocations for state governments, as well as 50% of tourism tax receipts.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the provision of the extra funds after chairing a meeting of the National Finance Council.

Petrol, diesel prices in Kapit, Song standardised, says deputy minister

KAPIT: The announcement about the price standardisation for petrol and diesel in the rural areas is welcoming news for the local residents and also those living in Song.

According to Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen, the ministry has been able to achieve this just before the Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Good news for needy families in Sarawak thanks to Petronas.

KUCHING: Sarawak will soon have a One-Stop Centre for Children with Special Needs to cater for needy families with intellectually-challenged children.

Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the State Cabinet approved the setting-up of the centre during its cabinet meeting.

Teaching mathematics, science in English to cost S?wak RM31 million

KUCHING: The teaching of mathematics and science in English programme is estimated to cost Sarawak government RM31 million.

Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin said this cost covers training of teachers and printing of textbooks which takes effect in all primary schools, except Chinese-medium schools, in Sarawak next year.

?We will need to train 3,000 teachers across 900 schools for the teaching of Science and Maths in English. As for the Chinese schools, they have indicated that they do not want to join in this programme.

Sarawak all set for 2030 developed state status, says CM

KUCHING: Sarawak will strive to develop its talents and infrastructure towards achieving its vision of becoming a developed state by 2030.

In stating this assurance, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg points out that the Sarawak government has put in place the necessary infrastructure, with more initiatives to follow, towards attaining this goal.

The chief minister, who is also the chairman of Sarawak?s ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), says his administration aspires to develop smart cities in Sarawak, besides working on bridging the development gap between the urban and rural areas.

KUALA LUMPUR: Timbalan Perdana Menteri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail berkata kumpulan sasar yang layak memohon i-Suri akan diperluas kepada masyarakat Orang Asli dan Orang Asal Sabah dan Sarawak.

Menteri Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat berkata pihaknya akan memanjangkan penyelarasan daftar pemohon program berkenaan dengan agensi bertanggungjawab termasuk Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (Jakoa) untuk mendapatkan senarai mereka yang layak.
